Queensland’s Baby Boomers: A Profile of Persons Born 1946–1965
Queensland’s Baby Boomers: A Profile of Persons Born 1946–1965 is a joint publication produced by the Office of Economic and Statistical Research and the Australian Bureau of Statistics. Made up of over a million Queenslanders, baby boomers are important as they are the first large population group who have significantly different characteristics to previous generations.
The publication provides a demographic, social and economic analysis of this group over time at the State and regional level. The analysis of the baby boomers generation was split into ‘older baby boomers’, those born from 1946 to 1955 and ‘younger baby boomers’, those born from 1956 to 1965.
The oldest baby boomers turn 59 during 2005, with a number of them nearing retirement or already retired. The youngest baby boomers turn 40 during 2005 and will be approaching retirement age over the next 15 to 25 years.
The publication can be downloaded or ordered from the Australian Bureau of Statistics website ABS Cat. no. 4149.3
